On Via del Bosco in Catania, you can feel a piece of Mount Etna underfoot. Stones from the volcano form part of the Urban SPA’s 27-metre Kneipp path, where bathers walk through alternating warm and cold water. River pebbles, pumice and Carrara marble give each stretch a different texture. It is a distinctly Sicilian detail in a hotel spa that also borrows from Finnish sauna and Mediterranean seawater bathing.

UNA HOTELS One Catania – Urban SPA is seventh in the 2026 Best Spa Italy selection. The hotel occupies a restored Art Nouveau villa in eastern Sicily. Its spa welcomes both overnight guests and people coming in from the city for a few hours.

Seawater, hay and Sicilian citrus

There are two quite different ways to take the waters here. The indoor thalassotherapy pool holds seawater at around 30°C, with jets directed at the lower back. On the Kneipp path, bathers keep moving. The brochure puts the cold section at 12°C, a marked change from the warmth of the pool.

The sauna rooms offer a similar choice. The biosauna uses hay from the Sicilian countryside and reaches about 52°C. In the hotter Finnish sauna, the hotel lists orange, cinnamon and star anise among the scents. Guests can also ask about a guided Aufguss session, during which an attendant places scented ice on the hot stones and fans the rising steam through the room.

From the bathing circuit to the Beauty Hub

Visitors can spend their time entirely in the bathing rooms or book an appointment at the Comfort Zone Beauty Hub. Its menu includes facials, body treatments and massage for one or two people. For a couple planning a visit, it is worth deciding how much time to leave for the pools before booking a shared massage. Spa admission and Beauty Hub appointments are booked separately.

There is also a movement studio, Spazio Corpo, created by dancer and performer Lidia Carew. The hotel’s programme combines Reformer and Gyrotonic equipment for classes focused on posture, strength and flexibility. A visiting-trainer programme means the timetable can change, so anyone building a visit around a particular class should check the schedule when booking.

Planning a visit in Catania

The spa is at Via del Bosco 62, Catania. To arrange a day visit, contact the hotel on +39 095 733 5100. Reserve ahead, especially for two people or for a treatment alongside the bathing circuit. The hotel’s spa brochure sets out the different access packages. If the salt room or a guided sauna ritual is what draws you, ask which ticket covers it and whether it runs during your preferred session.

For the full picture, the Urban SPA profile brings together the hotel’s photographs, practical details and published recognition. The Italy ranking places the Catania property alongside the other nine addresses in this year’s selection.
